Ingredients

  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (6–7 ounces each)

  • 2 cups pretzels, finely crushed

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour

  • 2 large eggs

  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard

  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

  • 1 teaspoon onion powder

  • 1 teaspoon paprika

  • ½ teaspoon salt

  • ½ teaspoon black pepper

  • ½ cup vegetable oil

For the Cheddar Sauce

  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter

  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

  • 1½ cups whole milk

  • 2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, freshly grated

  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder

  • ¼ teaspoon ground mustard

  • ¼ teaspoon salt

  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper


Instructions

  • Pat the chicken breasts dry and pound to even thickness if needed.

  • Set up three bowls: one with seasoned flour, one with eggs and Dijon mustard, and one with crushed pretzels.

  • Dredge each chicken breast in flour, dip into egg mixture, then coat with pretzels.

  • Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat and cook chicken for 4–5 minutes per side until golden and cooked through.

  • In a saucepan, melt butter, whisk in flour, then slowly add milk while stirring.

  • Reduce heat and stir in cheddar cheese and seasonings until smooth.

  • Serve chicken hot with cheddar sauce drizzled on top or on the side.

Notes

  • Freshly grated cheese creates the smoothest sauce.
