Description
A quick and flavorful taco recipe made with seasoned ground beef and fresh toppings, perfect for busy weeknights or casual gatherings.
Ingredients
1 pound (450 g) lean ground beef
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 small onion, finely diced (about 1 cup / 150 g)
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tablespoon chili powder
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1 teaspoon paprika
½ teaspoon dried oregano
½ teaspoon salt
¼ teaspoon black pepper
½ teaspoon onion powder
½ teaspoon garlic powder
½ cup (120 ml) tomato sauce
¼ cup (60 ml) water
8 small flour or corn taco shells
1 cup (100 g) shredded cheddar cheese
1 cup (60 g) shredded lettuce
1 cup (150 g) diced tomatoes
½ cup (120 g) sour cream
¼ cup (15 g) chopped fresh cilantro
1 lime, cut into wedges
Instructions
Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add diced onion and cook for 3–4 minutes until softened. Stir in garlic and cook for 30 seconds.
Add ground beef and cook for 6–8 minutes, breaking it apart until fully browned. Drain excess fat if needed.
Stir in chili powder, cumin, paprika, oregano, salt, pepper, onion powder, and garlic powder. Mix well.
Pour in tomato sauce and water. Reduce heat and simmer for 5–7 minutes until thickened.
Warm taco shells according to package instructions.
Fill shells with seasoned beef and top with cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, sour cream, cilantro, and lime juice. Serve immediately.
Notes
For extra heat, add ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper or a chopped jalapeño.
The beef filling can be made up to 3 days in advance and stored in the refrigerator.
To freeze, store cooled beef mixture in an airtight container for up to 3 months.
For a lighter option, serve the beef in lettuce wraps instead of taco shells.
