Description

A comforting, flavorful sandwich featuring juicy turkey patties, sweet caramelized onions, and melted cheese on crispy toasted bread.

Ingredients

Scale

2 large yellow onions, thinly sliced
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 tablespoon unsalted butter
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon sugar
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
500 grams (1 lb) ground turkey
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1/2 teaspoon paprika
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
2 tablespoons breadcrumbs
1 egg
8 slices rye or sourdough bread
4 slices Swiss cheese
2 tablespoons butter

Instructions

Heat olive oil and butter in a skillet, add onions, salt, and sugar, and cook on low for 25–30 minutes until caramelized.

Mix ground turkey with spices, mustard, breadcrumbs, and egg. Form into 4 patties.

Cook patties in a skillet for 4–5 minutes per side until done.

Butter bread slices, layer cheese, patty, onions, more cheese, and top with bread.

Grill each sandwich for 3–4 minutes per side until golden and melted.

Notes

For extra flavor, add sautéed mushrooms or a light garlic spread. Cook onions slowly for best results. Avoid overcooking turkey to keep it juicy.
