Description

A perfect appetizer or snack, these baked cheddar jalapeño poppers are cheesy, slightly spicy, and delightfully crispy. Ideal for game nights, casual gatherings, or a cozy snack at home, they are easy to make and sure to impress. Baking instead of frying keeps them lighter while still delivering all the flavor and crunch you crave.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 fresh jalapeño peppers

  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened

  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese

  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

  • 1 teaspoon onion powder

  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika

  • Salt and pepper, to taste

  • 1/2 cup panko breadcrumbs

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  • Slice the jalapeños in half lengthwise and remove seeds and membranes for milder heat.

  • In a medium bowl, combine cream cheese, shredded cheddar, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper until smooth.

  • Spoon the cheese mixture into each jalapeño half, slightly mounding the filling.

  • Toss panko breadcrumbs with olive oil in a small bowl and sprinkle over the stuffed jalapeños.

  • Arrange the poppers on the baking sheet and bake for 18–22 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and the topping is golden brown.

  • Let cool for 5 minutes before serving. Optionally, garnish with fresh herbs like parsley or cilantro.

Notes

  • Remove all seeds to reduce spiciness, or leave some for extra heat.

  • Poppers can be prepped a day ahead and stored in the refrigerator until baking.

  • Cheese variations such as Monterey Jack, pepper jack, or feta can be used for different flavors.

  • Serve immediately for best texture and flavor; leftovers can be stored in the fridge and reheated.
