Description

Soft, chewy, and packed with rich brown sugar flavor, these cookies are perfect for a cozy evening, a casual gathering, or just a sweet treat any time of day. Inspired by classic sugar cookies with a comforting twist, they are easy to make and loved by everyone.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 teaspoon baking soda

  • ½ teaspoon baking powder

  • ½ teaspoon salt

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened

  • 1 ½ cups packed brown sugar

  • 1 large egg

  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

  • 2 tablespoons milk

  • Granulated sugar, for rolling

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  • In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.

  • In a large mixing bowl, beat the butter and brown sugar until creamy and smooth.

  • Add the egg, vanilla extract, and milk; mix until smooth.

  • Gradually add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing on low until combined.

  • Scoop 1.5 tablespoons of dough and roll into balls. Roll each ball in granulated sugar.

  • Place cookies on the prepared baking sheet about 2 inches apart.

  • Bake for 10–12 minutes until edges are lightly golden but centers remain soft.

  • Cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.

Notes

  • Use room temperature butter for best results.

  • Rolling in sugar adds a sweet, slightly crisp exterior.

  • Do not overbake to keep cookies soft.

  • Cookies will continue to soften slightly as they cool.

  • Dough can be refrigerated up to 24 hours or frozen for longer storage.
