Ingredients

Scale

gredients

  • 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 teaspoon baking soda

  • ½ teaspoon baking powder

  • ½ teaspoon salt

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened

  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar

  • 1 large egg

  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

  • ¼ cup milk

  • Extra granulated sugar, for rolling

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper or lightly grease them.

  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.

  • In a large mixing bowl, cream the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 2–3 minutes.

  • Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until fully incorporated.

  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with milk, until a soft, slightly sticky dough forms.

  • Using a cookie scoop or tablespoon, scoop portions of dough and roll them into balls. Roll each ball in granulated sugar.

  • Place the cookies on the prepared baking sheets, leaving 2 inches between each. Bake for 10–12 minutes, until edges are lightly golden and centers remain soft.

  • Let cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • Avoid overbaking to keep cookies soft; they may look slightly undercooked in the center.

  • Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days or freeze for up to 3 months.

  • Optional variations: Add almond extract, cinnamon, citrus zest, or mini chocolate chips.

  • Roll in colored sanding sugar for a festive touch.

  • Dough can be prepared a day in advance and refrigerated; let sit 10 minutes at room temperature before baking.
