Description

A comforting, hearty bake featuring tender hamburger steaks smothered in rich homemade gravy. Perfect for easy weeknight dinners or family gatherings.


Ingredients

  • 2 pounds (900 g) ground beef

  • 1 medium onion, finely diced

  • 2 large eggs

  • 3/4 cup (90 g) breadcrumbs

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • 1 teaspoon black pepper

  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

  • 1 teaspoon onion powder

  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

  • 3 tablespoons (42 g) butter

  • 3 tablespoons (24 g) all-purpose flour

  • 3 cups (720 ml) beef broth

  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme

  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

  • 1 teaspoon onion powder


Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).

  • Mix ground beef, diced onion, eggs, breadcrumbs, salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and Worcestershire sauce until combined. Shape into 6–8 patties.

  • Brown patties in a skillet for 2–3 minutes per side.

  • Melt butter in the same skillet. Whisk in flour to form a roux.

  • Slowly add broth while whisking. Add thyme, parsley, salt, pepper, and onion powder. Simmer until thickened.

  • Place patties in a baking dish and pour gravy over them.

  • Bake for 30–35 minutes.

  • Rest 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

For a lighter option, substitute ground turkey or chicken. Pairs beautifully with mashed potatoes or noodles.
